Please help - id a picture
« on: July 23, 2016, 01:03:33 pm »
This picture/print/watercolor has a signature I have not been able to identify. Since that has not worked out, maybe I could identify the style, OR the architecture of the roof lines in the picture.  I may be able to track down a location of the picture and try again  from those details. For example, does anyone think the village is Belgian, or maybe in Amsterdam? I have looked at other prints of those locations and they don't really match up.
I guess the questions end up being
who is the artist and or where might this village be? (Hopefully not in someone's imagination!)
Thank you so much.

The subject looks to be a stylized rendering of Rothenburg, Germany, a major tourist destination. However, the gable ends do look northern, like you'd see around the North Sea in places like Denmark or Hanseatic Germany.

Don't know the artist, but these things are popular in tourist places like Rothenburg, which is on Germany's "Romantic Road."

Is it framed ?? I see a mat around it!!  If its a print many times the publishers info and the title will be in the lower border where it is covered by the mat !!

Yes! The frame size is 14x11. The frame had gilt trim which is all but worn away. Sorry not to have included framed picture.

The picture is 8x6 inches.

Adding frame pictures.
Haven't wanted to disturb it but I will if I can't find the artist.

Does not look like an expensive frame !!  I would remove it from the frame and toss that cardboard in the trash !!  It is not acid free and will damage the print if it hasn`t already !!  Get a piece of acid free backing to replace it with !!  While its out of the frame check the border for title !!
