"This woman’s platinum and light yellow Cape diamond ring with a center stone of about 5.15 carats "
Well "DUH", I really don't think that the abbreviated "
gold plat" notation is in fact defining a "
gold plated platinum ring" ...... simply because it would have been
utterly silly for anyone to "plate" a solid gold ring with platinum @ todays price of
$1,064.60/oz ...... or to "plate" a solid platinum ring with gold @ todays price of
$1,327.95/oz.
But it gets even more sillier iffen that ring was made 10+ years ago, say in 2002 because those metal prices were quite different then.
The price of
gold in 2002 was around
$342.00/oz ........ whereas the price of
platinum was around
$500.00/oz.Whether that ring was made yesterday or yesteryear, ..... it makes no sense to "plate" one of those metals with the other metal.
