Old Print signed in pencil on the border
« on: September 11, 2005, 08:15:37 am »
This is new to me but here goes.
I have found an old print that shows a man walking along a road headed toward a village off in the distance and the man is carrying what appears to be a hay scythe and hay rake over his shoulder with a hat on and a red vest. There is a large old tree to his right and and a stream or pond.
In the lower left corner of the print are the printed words "REINTHAL & NEWMAN NY" and below that on a white border is written in pencil what I believe to be the name of the print "Close of Day".
On the lower right corner of the print and part of the picture is the signature "Emilla A" but I cannot read it and it appears to be cut off". Below that is written in pencil on the white border the surname " Alan or Adan"
Does anyone know who this painter is and is the pencil writing the authentic signature and writing of the painter of the original painting before it was put out as a print and what year and from where is the print?
Any guessed on value would be appreciated
