Silver Goblet
« on: November 13, 2016, 09:08:29 pm »
Hello,
I have two of these goblets I would like to know about.
They are 6 inches tall.
Underneath, you will see    916 N
On the front is a space referred to as
vacant cartouche, or a foliate cartouche...
There does not seem to be evidence that something may have been attached, but I read that portraits and crests were placed there.
The more I researched, the more confusing. Some similar are from Russia, Spain and Malta.
I found references to 916 as an amount of silver??? If so, what does that amount mean?
I was unable to find anything with   N
only a reference to 916 H.
"916H.   H is the first letter of the Finnish word for silver, Hopea, and '916H' is a Finnish designation for .935 silver".
So, how to figure out where mine is from?
Thank you for your help!
