I just got a good deal on an antique possibly 1700's (not sure though) pocket watch. It is marked D.D. Neveren London. I have photos of the watch and very close ups of the movement and the dial. I believe it is silver and has a ruby movement.

I was just wondering if anyone knows much about this watch? Especially the year.

I know this may not be the most valuable pocket watch in the world, but the fact it could be over 200 years old makes it really neat.

My second question is, it runs well, but it is very fast (3 minutes late an hour). Is there a way to slow down the movement? I see there is a place on the back that it may be possible.

Thanks a lot for your help!!

Looking at the inside works,, I would be suspicious !!  It just simply looks too new to be of that date !!
But I am no expert !!  I would post the pics to the NAWCC forum who are experts !!  They will know !!  They will not advise for monetary reasons though so do not ask about its worth !! They will tell you everything else about the watch !!  The case is not important !! It should be marked separately from the watch !!
Let us know what you find out !!

I would agree with Mart; it just doesn't look like an 18th century example of watchmaking. The "crude" engraving of his name and town would be suspicious to me.

These are thought to be made in Holland from what I can find !!  I have checked all three spellings of that name and have found none !!  Only the watches have that name !!  No one by that name ever worked in London that I can find even though some sites say he did !! If he  was a watchmaker there would be a record of it or at least one known original !!  There are many of these watches on the internet !!

They're known fakes from the early 19th century. Made in Switzerland and Holland with " London " used as a selling tool

People do collect them but they're not worth as much their contemporaries

I valued one years ago. I'd never heard of the maker and thought the owner had a rare thing until i checked !

There was a very popular tv comedy over here called Only Fools And Horses about a wheeler dealer, market trader father and son partnership. They spent years selling dodgy antiques and trying all kinds of schemes to fulfill their dream of becoming millionaires. Then one day a specialist spots a rare timepiece in their garage amongst all the only records and dust bunnies...
makes them a fortune

We were inundated with requests for watch and clock valuations after that episode !!!

Here's a classic clip from the show
