Hi John,

This is a link to a previous discussion on our forum.  It is about a double barrel but maybe it will get you started.

Take the forearm off and check to see if there is a small proof mark with "ELG" on the bottom of the barrel. Many of their firearms were made in Belgium, and would be marked thus:

I searched for "Jannby-Semple Hill & Co" ...... but no could find.

Of course, Google asked, ...... "did you mean Janney, Semple, Hill & Co?"

Quote
Researcher is correct. Janney, Semple, Hill & Co was in business from 1860 to 1960 and sold "Trade Brand Name" shotguns.

A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major maker (and before 1940) for a wholesale sporting goods dealer, a retail chain store or an independent retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. These guns were made in both the United States and Europe.

My reference book say that guns with the name JANNEY, SEMPLE, HILL & CO were made in Belgium by a maker named Simonis, Jannsen & Dumoulin Company of Liege, Belgium.

Take a look at the bottom of the barrels of your gun under the forearm (hand guard) for Belgian proof marks consisting of the letters "ELG" in an oval with a crown on top.
