Old Perfume Bottle
« on: July 10, 2017, 05:20:57 pm »
Hello! A friend of mine has this old perfume bottle in a case that she says her grandfather brought back from France in the 1940's. Can anyone tell us more about it?

It is about 3 inches tall. You can see from the pictures that it is in a case that almost looks like a little coffin. The bottle is metal (silver?) and etched with a flower design. It has a hinged lid, and the stopper is still in it. The mark on the bottom looks like it says EBM or CBM with what looks like a lion maybe and a shield, an L and something else.

Any info would be appreciated! And yes, it still smells of whatever perfume it once held. :)

(I will put the rest of the attachments in the following post.)

Didn`t find anything on the initials,,CBM or EBM,, but the Lion Passant is the British standard for sterling and the leopard head is for London !! Can`t tell what the date letter is,,,maybe I or T,, or the last symbol !!

Beautiful piece - and in original boxing (that looks to be in great condition)!  Win Win!  Very collectible!  Pieces with original packaging just get harder and harder to find.

Lion Passant (Silver Content Mark)  Leopard Head (London) L  (Date Mark for 1886)  Sovereign Head (Duty Mark used from 1784 - 1890 - bearing the profile of the reigning monarch showing that duty/taxes were paid)

Was her Grandfather in the military?  I believe mark is FBM for Army & Navy Cooperative Society Ltd (Frederick Bradford Macrea).  (See reference page and the dates correlate with the date mark above.)

Take a look/see for this one for sale

Note:  Yours will have more value with original packaging in such wonderful condition.  However, this bottle needs some expert polishing.

Good work KC. A point for you!

Wow, what a score. It's rare to see a double-ender with it's original case.

ghopper1924 this one isn't a double ended perfume.  However it is one that appears to be in good to excellent condition

WITH the glass stopper still intact (hopefully no chips or flea bites) AND original packaging!  Well marked.  Win Win Win!

What condition is the silver in?

Mart, couldn't live without cheaters and the "enlarge picture" button!  :)  🤓

This is what happens when you get old! Mart, with her enlarge pic button on a 1995 puter with Win 95 OS? I am betting there ain't no enlarge button! BAM! Mart is just a click or two away from being totally in the dark down there!

Thank you so much for the information! I knew you guys could do it!  :D My friend was thrilled to finally have some information about it. She doesn't plan to sell it, but it was nice to hear it might be worth something.

Mart, couldn't live without the cheaters and the "enlarge picture" button!  was my reply to her about me.  With my son being in the IT industry he keeps the whole family up on the latest!  My parents are very elderly, (I am elderly!  LOL), and he helps keep them up on the latest magnifications for doing bills, computer, everyday life.
