Brass Plates
« on: August 19, 2017, 10:49:32 am »
I have 2 heavy brass plates that I'm not sure what their markings sympolize.  The are matching, about 5 1/2" in diameter, about 5/8" tall and each weighs almost 1 pound.  There are no markings on the back - there is a small hole in the center.  Any information you may have on these would be appreciated.
Thank you, Mickie

You will see pieces like this on display stands in homes.

Fenghuang is very prevalent in Asian art.  (Mythological birds that bear great influence and symbolism.) You typically see phoenix feathers or peacock feathers in many Chinese/Asian pieces.  The meaning of the birds feathers have deep meaning in religions/daily life.

Phoenix feathers represent bliss, unity, etc in a marriage.

This is also represented in peacock feathers.

Mart, they said they weighed at least 1 lb a piece.  Don't think I have ever seen a heavy tiered piece like that.

I can't see the hole in the pictures.  Do both have them in the center?  Are there any marks to look as if a screw had ever been through the bottom or attached to a handle?

The holes on the back are very small and shallow - it doesn't appear to have have a screw that would make this a tier.  Thank you all for the information
