D.F. Barry Photos

I just won these at an auction.  Can any one help me with what is "G.W.Reeves collection" ?  These are larger limited edition photos.  What would there value run?

Is there any writing on the back of the framed photo?  I thought maybe there was because you knew the one photo was of Red Horse and the other called Burial Ground.  But, perhaps, you researched the names...What are the measurements of the photos please?

I did find one limited edition photo (DF Barry) which sold for $49.95 in 2008 on Ebay.  It explains how the negative plates were used by a modern photographer:

I'm not certain yet about the GW Reeves Collection, but can tell you that DF Barry's work is represented in selected permanent collections.

The one on EBay was not an original. These are originals. I got the name from researching them. I'll look through the collections you listed.  Thanks.

So I think you are right after researching these not. They are not original Barry prints. I have written the auction place to cancel shipping. They kinda misrepresented. Glad you said that.

The GW Reeves collection were items donated to the George Washington University in DC !!  When they put them on display there it was all part of the Reeves Collection as  a group !!

Interesting, Mart.  I saw that there was a Reeves Collection of ceramics at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.  The items were donated by Mr. And Mrs. Euchlin D. Reeves of Providence, Rhode in 1967.  I kind of stopped there because there wasn't mention of anything, other than ceramics.  Do you know if this is part of the collection you mentioned?  I'm just curious....

If you look at the signed initials they are GR. I believe meaning he created a limited edition series in larger format. So he took Barry's  images, printed them in larger format. More like he is stealing Barrys work and calling it his own.

May not be stolen !! Many times art or photos will be in the public domain and free for anyone to reproduce and sell !!  Depends on when the copyright expires !! For art (if they haven`t changed it recently) it is the artists life plus 70 years !!  After that they lose any rights over it !!  Photos may be different !!  Have not checked lately but will do that now !!

In 1976 it was changed to the artists life plus 50 years for photos !!  Copyright exists from the moment  it is created ,,not even  necessary to register it !!

Well DF Barry died in 1934, so adding 50 years would bring us to 1984.  So, if the items were donated by Mr. And Mrs. Euchlin D. Reeves of Providence, Rhode in 1967, they should not have been reproduced.

SophieMarie in your link to Internetantiquesgaz ette,, the last paragraph says that in Barry`s later life he opened a studio and "marketed" his photos !! So he could have sold reproduction rights on some of the lesser pics!!

This says "at the bottom"that the photo usually shown of Red Horse is  a different one than the one from Little Big Horn !! 
Also found that a Colonel Bruder (hope that is right) from Virginia owns many of the originals and negatives !! 
This is confusing !!
