The wife just did find this “overlooked” 😊 item in a $1 box of “odds n’ ends” that she had purchased at auction like 2 or 3 months ago.
And I think it is a “goodern” ….. and worth a lot more than what she paid for it. Especially given the fact it has that “
hook” on the handle (bottle opener) (see photo 805) … whereas none of the others I found pictures of had such a “hook”.
“HA”, and the only purpose I could think of for said “hook” would be for “un-twisting” the wire cage that holds the cork firmly in the bottle. Like so:
Anyway, the description:
Circa - estimated late 1800’s ??
The funnel is marked with a 3 initial monogram - D ? ? (see photo 805)
There are several numbers and the word “
sterling” around the edge of the small tube where it attaches to the small end of the funnel ….. but a loupe is needed to see them (ref photo 805)
The bottle opener (handle) is probably nickel plated
The corkscrew itself is probably nickel plated also
Total length: 6 ½”
Bottle opener-Corkscrew length: 4 ¼”
Funnel length: 4 ¼”
Funnel diameter: 2 ¼”
The correct name for this item appears to be, to wit:
Antique Corkscrew, Silver Traveling Funnel with Bottle Opener, Corkscrew,
