But whatever the plated material is I think that the owners name and the testing stickers maybe a clue will give about the origin off the lamp . You don't see many desk lamps who are getting tested regularly by Grundig . So who made the lamp and who was the owner could be handy  ;)

Update > Took the lamp apart and the base material is brass and plated with gold . The weight is 3.6 kilograms in total

I think if you will check,, that sticker serves the same purpose as a UL quality seal does here !!  Has nothing about gold on it !!  The number would be the inspectors number that verified it was made according to quality standards !!

I have figured out already that the owners name is connected with Grundig . He was one off the high chiefs off Grundig what brings the checks on safety with the two stickers a bit more close . Normally these stickers are not to be seen on desk lamps on the open world . The gold layer is positief on my gold check acid so brings the brass/gold layer connection closer  8)

Grundig manufactures a variety of home appliances, …… they don't test lamps …… but their QC department or "final inspection" would.

Plating brass with gold is an expensive way to prevent "tarnishing" when a coating of lacquer works just fine.

Maybe a message to Grundig could be a smart thing to do  ::) About the lamp and the owner as noted on the foot . But high chief off Grundig with a gold plated (expensive) desk lamp could be fitting I think . The rumor is also that he went in to politics after Grundig so search is still on  :P

In the past for extremely high end/custom items gold plating was used over brass.  The bad part about it is that generally the brass could migrate through the gold layer over time and would "tarnish".  Because of the expensive endeavor of this it was not widely used - lacquer was cheaper and lasted.

It is a required German inspection DGUV label on it as required for portable electrical items.  It was inspected in May (5 was marked)  somewhere between 1993 to 1998.  They didn't mark the year from what I can see.

Its a double label and the year "93" appears to be what was intended to be "punched" out leaving a hole in the label.

If it was mine I would list it on E-bay with a "Buy it Now" price of $3,333.33  :P :P :P :P

The sticker underneath the label is from the eighties so the lamp must be at least from this time .
