Value of Armoire and Rocking Chair
« on: August 06, 2021, 02:21:50 pm »
Hey everyone,
I purchased these two pieces at an estate auction 20 years ago.  I'm getting ready to move and I dont have room for them.
Does anyone have a rough idea of what they might be worth?
Or any info on age/era that would help me to sell them
I remember not paying that much, maybe 100 for the rocker and 200 for the armoire (75 tall x 58 wide)
Any info would help!
Thank you!!

Hi Lewmel:

Nice pieces! I'm sure you know, however, that brown furniture has taken a downward turn since you bought these two. Sadly, you'll be lucky to get what you put into them 20 years ago. If you do, count yourself lucky.

I recently tried to sell a rocker rather like yours. I ended up having to give it away; nobody wanted it at $25.00.

The chair also looks very beautiful. Should have a better price than the cabinet.

Are you in the USA ?   Both pieces look to be shortly after 1900 !  But can`t see them well,, pics do not enlarge and they are sideways !  Hard to see !  The armoire may be hard to sell since people do not use them anymore !  Now,, that said if anyone bites on it,, you might suggest turning it into an entertainment cabinet or a bar (even better) !

The rocker is ca. 1890.

The armoire would sell great in our area.  So would the rocker.  Not sure what part of the country you are in.

Yeah, agree with others on this, a tough sell all the way around the corner here.
Rockers are hard to give away and armoires as well unless selling in an area where the houses don't have closets.

If the rocker has the original coils (flat, snail shape) and not later replacement springs, look for a patent date on the coil that will give you an approximate date for your rocker. Unfortanately, rocking chairs are terribly undervalued. Beautiful rockers sell at under $100 all the time. Personally I love them. They are so full of history and character. I wish I had room for more of them. Sadly they are terribly underappreciated. The armour I'm not able to help with
