1946 Chicago Lincoln Bridge by Wilma Bland
« on: December 26, 2017, 09:49:09 pm »
I bought 3 paintings  and found out they were painted by a woman named Wilma Bland, who also studied with Hans Hoffman.I had this lot of paintings on another board and the son of this artist contacted me and gave me the story of his mom.But I can't find out a price to at least sell one.Anybody know price or art site I can find price. Here's information the son sent to me.
Wilma Bland (1914-2002) was my mother.  the bridge in your painting was in Chicago's Lincoln Park. She was Chicago-born/raised/married, moving to Memphis c. 1939 w/dad. She studied at what I believe was called the Memphis Academy of Art and later did studies at Northwestern, The (Chicago) Art Institute, and with Hans Hoffman in Provincetown, MA. She taught art for the Memphis Recreation Dept. for about 25 years. She exhibited widely in the Mid-South, including at Brooks Gallery in Memphis. Years ago, she had a one-man show at Chicago's Newman Brown Gallery. She sold and donated what paintings she had left near the end of her life although, happily, I have about a dozen that she and I considered some of her best work. The paintings hang proudly in my home. Glad you share my enthusiasm for her work! Would enjoy hearing how you discovered her. Side notes: Mom was best friends with noted Chicago artist Diane Duvigneaud who headed the North Central College (Naperville, IL)

I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

I think she was showing that as a sale reference,,not that it was yours !!  This says still life and yours is a landscape !!
I saw that KC but no others !!  And it doesn`t say if it sold  or not !!

Ok, I'm trying to understand this. It appears that you have three paintings, but are calling one a casein.  Casein is an aqueous painting medium, which is made from milk.  So, it appears that you have a bridge, boathouse and floral under glass (casein).  Is that correct?  Also, are they calling the floral a "still life"?   I just read the information from Collector's Weekly.

Yes that's correct.I have two paintings, one is Chicago Lincoln bridge, the other one is a boat house in Chicago. The one with the label is a casein painting under glass which is  still life.
