We are new to the antique scene and have found a dinning set we are interested in.  The set includes a table with two pull out extensions, six chairs, a vitrine and a buffet server.  The wood appears to be unstained due to its light color.  In addition I am guessing it is oak because of the pattern of the grain. The joinery on the drawers have a three uneven dovetail construction. The only damage to the items appears to be a slightly worn table top and a leg on the table that has a two and a half inch vertical split on the thickest part of the design.  We are looking to pay about $1800 for the set... is that a reasonable amount and how would it be best to repair the damage or prevent it from getting worse?

that's not a bad price to pay. wood repair kit's are sold at larger hard ware stores. needle used to insert wood glue into the crack.then wood clamps to close the repair.

Thank you so much!  ;D

I know there are no markings on the bottom but do you have any idea of who the maker could have been?
