G. Hardy & Co. House Furnishers Oldham St. Manchester
« on: November 11, 2007, 08:10:23 pm »
Friends-
I recently purchased a table from a thrift store for $11.26.  It is solid oak (27 1/2 inches tall) (42 by 46) almost square with no leaves (although it had leaves at one time).  It has a metal tubular glide that looks as if it had a key or special wrench to make it extend.  Metal screws (flathead).  The company is G. Hardy & Co. House Furnishers Oldham St. Manchester.  After looking through the internet I have not been able to find this company and wondered how old the company was, does it still exist?  After looking through EBay to see if there are similar tables I think (am not sure) that this table is circa 1890.  Does anyone know if this company was indeed around during this time and if so the approx. price a table such as this is worth.  I am pretty sure it would be considered a "farm table" as it is not ornate but VERY sturdy.  I am very happy with my purchase and think the thrift store did not know what they really had.  There were cheesy 1970's formica top tables selling for much more.
Any info would be appreciated.
