Secret compartments
« on: March 12, 2008, 02:43:03 pm »
Hello.I'm a furniture maker trying to find info on secret compartments. Not that easy.I've been all over the place, caught a couple viuses and didn't find much.I figured people who deal with antiques should know.I wasn't looking for something simple like a false bottom drawer, but something with springs, tumblers, catches, etc.Any info?Does anyone know if there has been a study of sec compartments in antiques.Really anything would help. All I've found are Puzzle boxes, interesting site http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bruce.viney/plans.html  but not exactly wht I was looking for.Details would help as I am sort of stupid. ;DThanks!!!

jvb33, as you probably know by now secret compartments are often found in old desks and secretaries and in that the "secret" was a product of the cabinetmaker there is no standard design/location (they wouldn't be a secret if so).

Thus, if you are a furniture maker, ................... ..  ;D

Anyway, have you tried "Googling" the following:

old furniture desk secret compartment

old furniture secretary secret compartment

one you will find is: http://www.basic-antiques.com/furniture-secret-drawers.htm
