what is this?
« on: March 20, 2008, 10:54:44 am »
i bought it from a person in texas that buys from estate sales...and markets...on one side of the lever it says made in england...on the other side it says "Model 4". The bodice of it appears to be one solid piece with a single join down the back. It has a pump inside that can be unscrewed and removed. The nozzle says solo mist. It looks brass with no red in the tarnishing.
I was told it was a perfume dispenser...any ideas what it is and where it came from. I just bought it because i thought it was neat and unusual.

i just noticed "pattapp_ _for" is stamped into the pump which is also brass ...i think that is what it says...the blank area is hard to make out and i dont want to guess

Lorimac,  that "pattapp_ _for" means "patent applied for".

I don't think it is a perfume dispenser.

I'll make a guess and say it is a "disinfectant" or "insecticide" sprayer.

As a historical note, when Doctors first realized the value of "disinfecting" to kill harmful bacteria prior to performing surgeries they “sprayed” the disinfectant in the air around the operating area. Later on they began washing their hands and sterilizing their instruments.
