Antique door knob and latch
« on: September 02, 2008, 11:06:45 pm »
Hello,

I have an antique doorknob and latch from a door to a house that was built in the late 1800's.

I've been trying to look up the history/value of the door knob from online antique hardware stores, otherwise.

Would love to know more info. on this type of doorknob.

Thanks!

Not much to say. Porcelain knob with a cast iron rim lock. That embossed mark in the center is probably a makers mark.

Hey,

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

Do you know the best places to try to sell it?

I was trying to find similar ones posted in e-bay. Otherwise, I was trying to e-mail antique house hardware stores...

Thanks!

eBay is probably your quickest avenue for selling. Although eBay seems as though it is becoming more of a flea market with bargains of buying it good fast and cheap. A booth in an antique mall or a friend that does may garner more money but may also take longer to sell.

Selling to antique hardware stores would be alright too but keep in mind, they too have to make a profit and would/should offer 1/2 of retail value.
