Antique Satsuma Vase?

I intended to purchase this at auction( online )for my mother, but I do not know enough about Satsuma to not get taken. It is listed as an antique? porcelain Satsuma vase, but does not include a pic of the base. Also, I have not seen any with this design( wide with scrolled handles...looks more like a planter or flower pot to me ) Any chance this is not modern?

Not knowing how big it is, it's difficult to say what it is, but the shape looks more like a planter. Are these the only photos that were posted on the sale site? If so, I'd be tempted to e-mail the seller and ask if they could provide photos showing all the surfaces, 360 degrees plus base, plus top view. I certainly wouldn't part with any of my money just on those two pics of the same side.

Good advice from mariok54 need photos of makers mark (bottom of piece) and all sides, close up photos also(If you do not mind me asking how much are they asking ??) ask what century do they place it in.   Satsuma is a type of earthenware made in Japan as early as the seventeenth century. The earliest wares were enameled with simple flowers. By the late eighteenth century a floral brocade (nishikide design) was frequently used. Gold & silver enamels were used as accents by the nineteenth century. Human forms such as Samurai warriors & geisha girls were used to appeal to western tastes by the twentieth century. If you can get photos of makers mark ( if it has one) & close ups please post them and I will be happy to take a look and see if I can help.

Ditto....never buy without Mark......unless you are an expert and "know" what you are getting....and willing to pay the $$$$ for it!

finally got a look at the base....says MADE IN CHINA with SATSUMA written underneath. Both in English

However, if you liked it, and you think that your mother will like it, then it probably still has a decorative value, so long as they're not asking too much for it and it is in good condition. At least you know what you'll be bidding on.
