Antique typewriter
« on: January 29, 2009, 02:55:33 pm »
This was my grandfather's typewriter which he used for his business in the early 1900's.

It is a Corona "The Personal Writing Machine"  Model #3 and the patent date is July 1914.  It is in wonderful working condition. (Corona made the first portable.)  The case is worn (no markings on case) from years of transport and usage.  The Manual is only the cover - insides are missing.  (Corona before it became Smith-Corona in 1920.)  The unusual part is mine has a Corona Sticker on it... I have looked for a long time...haven't seen one!

Where in the world would the serial number be on this?

Approximate value?
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Oops, Patent is 1917!  The neat thing about this is that to fold up inside the case...the carriage folds up and over the keys.  Only has one shift key which is locked with a small metal toggle for transporting.

Try looking on the inside of the back of the underside of the base.

It will be interesting to see what serial number it is. to see if it is common or not.
I find that most common typewriters at this point in time make good toys for kids, as the value is next to nothing.

most of the time you cant give them away on ebay.

Hi!  Thanks for the serial number location.  It is 452708.  it was higher up inside so I missed it.  I bet it is a common one at this time, what do you think?

Value for sure is sentimental.  He worked hard and supported a large family while struggling with crippling arthritis!  And my dad, the youngest, was a whipper-snapper!
