Antique(?) mug, by T. Goode and Co.

Hello!

I was rummaging through some of my great-grandmother's things that she'd left us when she passed, and I came across a mug. It's made by T. Goode and Co., and looks to be very old. It has '1900' on the back of it, although I'm not sure whether it pertains to when the mug was made or when the company began.

Any help whatsoever on the history and/or value (or even lack thereof!) would be greatly appreciated.

The english registry number check's out to be correct( 355750) circa 1900  determining who he is could increase the value. which I would place at $ 250.00 Dollars & that may be conservative.

    Not sure I can touch that any better, But would sure have to say that is one cool mug you have there.   What my books say and show is a bit different.  It labels Thomas Goode and Co. as a retail firm, In other words it sounds like they and just buy and resale,  Did say they have been around since the 19th century, no actual date given.  There is also three hallmarks available.  For sure nothing like what you have.  Looks hand signed kinda of thing.  Not sure what all this means as of yet, but you have something really cool.  Hope that helps from a former newbie to Jr. Now  , don't have 1000 post yet but working on it    Congrats DB on the 1000 post, you rock

After a bit more looking around. T. Goode and Co. is a retailer it would appear, who hired artist for making high quality item.  There are some Goode stuff out there but all have hallmarks as far as I can see.  So still a bit confused,  I would say it was made by William X for The goode company.  But still come back to the hand written markings, maybe a really early piece before they hallmarked?  I also notice that there is a REC marking in the bottom of the mug  that makes life a bit different I sure in some way.  It looks so much different them all the other items marked T. Goode, a bit more handmade Artist kinda of thing, not something mass produced in a mold.   There are also some markings on his hat am a bit curious about those too.

Oh mercy, me thinks that is a Toby Mug, and a really old one too boot.

Your are correct. and what 's worse' that company was known to have used (57) fifty seven different trade mark's. of which at least (20) were variant's.

Well It does and is a toby cup it would seem, (learn something new everyday her),  Cogar had a link that may bring some answers, try and Google Roberta Niederjohn, find her e-mail and ask her, I'm sure she would know more about this including date and the unusual hand markings.  I'm sure we have a pretty good collector item here, just getting date and history may prove a bit hard.

I believe that it is a "original" Toby mug...but believe that it indeed has to be established by a appraiser.
