carved religious madonnas
« on: May 10, 2009, 08:41:10 pm »
This one has  ns del  camino written on it, signed by A. Cortes. We have several others with different names but all signed by Cortes, or Cortez.  We are not sure if  they are Spanish or Mexican. Or maybe S. America.  They are carved from wood and then painted. Very ornate.   Any and all help appreciated.

Del Camino means "of the way".  Camino is commonly used to refer to a pilgrimage for religious means.  The exact one if not clear.  There are ones in Latin America, Bolivia and a famous 500 mile Camino that is in Spain and France.  These are the only ones I have heard of that items like these could have been sold at....interestingly ....your piece has the name Alicia on the side and appears to be a souvenir item.  Unfortunately the names Cortes is very common in these countries and this type of artisan work.

Maybe the others have an idea.
