Biedermeier?
« on: May 11, 2009, 04:37:30 pm »
How can I tell if my couch is a true Biedermeier?  Are there any specific markings to look for?
I don't know a lot about antiques.

there are no specific marking's. construction methods will come in to play. you should see mortise & tenon construction dowel's were used in the machine age.

no coil spring use until at least 1828 there after copper coil spring's. there was a revival period of biedermeier in 1860 thru the 1920's. you would expect to find machine construction in the frame work after 1880 or so.
