Help - Silver salt dish with scoop?
« on: June 11, 2009, 09:34:32 am »
I found a sterling silver (probably plated) dish that I was told was a salt dish with a scoop.  It was used in the kitchen.  On the bottom it says Lenard Italy and I cannot read the rest of it, too small and my magnifying glass is packed.  I am sure it is not old just looking for confirmation as to what it is and what it could be worth and I guess age.[img][img].  Hope the picture shows up!

thanks.

First and sorry to say I think what you have is not old, may barely make the vintage mark.  Leonard would be plate not sterling, Leonard started in 1969 and was soon acquired by international silver.

Here is a bit on the history of Leonard

History of The Leonard Silver Manufacturing
Company : Started in 1969. It's founder,
Leonard Florence, used a local garage in
Chelsea, Massachusetts, to market silver plate
holloware. Products were manufactured by
firms in India. The company was acquired by
Towle Silversmiths in 1978. At that time, the
headquarters were moved to Boston, Mass. The
Leonard Silver line is now a part of International
Silver Company (Syrtech Corp.).

Then the fact that it is marked italy makes it for sure a International line of product as they now have lots of silverplate made in italy,  What you have was basically made for decoration. in a old style not that it can't be used for tableware.
