You might want to go to your local museum and ask them what measures they take to ensure items making it though a earthquake (just short of moving out of CA).

It would be a total shame to have items that can only be boxed up and not seen/admired/enjoyed.

I know one of my brothers lives there and we put all of their china (which was my moms) in the china hutch with Museum Putty (actual name - clear putty we got a Home Depot that the museum recommended).  It had made it through all the quakes with only 1 piece getting broken due to it not being puttied.  It doesn't show and if some does it is clear and fairly inconspicuous. The pieces in the bottom of the hutch have the foam shelf liner between them (plates, etc).

That's a good idea about asking at the museum. And if I can't bear to have them put away, museum wax would be better than loose like they are now. I imagine that the safest would be to keep them boxed up and in the lower locked cabinets, and another measure would be to strap the hutch to eh wall with U-brackets and the top to the bottom.

I agree....as long as the wall stands!  My brother has his cabinets/hutches strapped to the walls.

We have mostly little shakers up here in the Northwest , but large ones are on the horizon here ( I can see Mt. Rainier out my window ) .

We use earthquake straps on stuff here , some use museum putty , velcro and dbl-backed foam tape .

Maybe we should get this guy to design a cabinet ....

I remember those Gumby bendable buddies! Anyone else remember the Blockheads from the Claymation series?

My in-laws gave us the Gumby videos and our kids loved them....watched them over and over until we were ready to turn Gumby into a Super Ball!  :)
