Joe, in the above picture I posted is what I call a “grab”. One just takes a sledgehammer and drives the “spike” into the side of the log about 12” from one end, hook a chain from a horse/tractor/4-wheeler to the “ring” on the “grab” and down the road or off the hill ya go. When ya get to where your going, just “whap” it on the “spike” end and it will jump back out of the log …… and off ya go again. And that’s why I said it a lot quicker than using a “choker” chain.
And ps: I once spent 2 weeks way back in the woods helping my buddy build a 15’ x 20’ log addition on his cabin. And that included cuttin, de-barkin, skiddin, notchin and putting them in place.
