The nice thing about the small size of this one is that it still makes a good tabletop trivet for hot dishes. Some of the hearth trivets are really tall, about 14". The shorter legs on this one make it still quite functional for light-duty use. There are all kinds of interesting designs on the plates of these trivets too. I saw one on Ebay with a phoenix- kinda cool since it would have been rising from the ashes in the hearth.. The 18th century iron ones are neat and very primitive. The ones used to hold sad irons are spade shaped and those are easy to find. There seem to be less of the footman style ones and I hadn't seen a smaller three-legged one like mine. The ones that hang on the hearth fender are neat too. It has been interesting to see the different styles they were made in

Tales, this one appears to be similar to yours in size but does not have the character of the legs as yours.

A current reproduction (India) with similar legs.....no where near the quality of yours.

I will take a look when I get home, I can't lift the addy's with my BlackBerry's browser. But thanks I'll check 'em out! These funny little trivets have a lot of personality. They kind of remind me of that dragon-footed porcelain we were writing stories about on this forum a month or so ago!

Here's another similar one:

And this page has several examples of the earlier forged iron types. (Scroll down there is one at the top of the page and several at the bottom)

We're back home now, so here are the dimensions of mine: 5-3/4" diameter (across the top), and 3-1/4" in height.
