Vase made in Japan circa 1917

I am interested in obtaining information on a vase that I was told by my Uncle that the vase was given to my grandparents as a wedding present in 1917.  The vase is 12 1/2 inches tall, top diameter is 3 3/4 inches, bottom diameter is 4 5/8 inches.  There are two handles at the top of the vase.  It is a floral vase with raised gold outlines on the flowers and leaves.  The most prominent flower looks like a blue Iris.  The only markings on the vase is, Made in Japan. Any help would be appreciated.

George a bit of difficulty, with the family history. made in japan was first applied in 1921. it is a noritake style pattern which it is not. it might sell at $35.00 Dollars.

Thanks for the information.  My late Uncle exaggerated somewhat at times.  Since my Grandparents were married in 1917, there is now way that this could have been given to them as a wedding present.  It was most likely something that was won at the fair or amusement park.  Thanks, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I heard something about this 'Made in' thing being for items of export from 1921 and later.
Did this apply only to Japan or all countries?

    After 1921 it became a law that items had to be mark from the country the Item was made.  It applied to many countries Germany, England, japan and etc.  However the thing that bothers me is I thought from 1921 to post war, Items from japan is marked Nippon, and made japan or Occupied Japan between 1948 to 1952. and after that Made in Japan only.

You have heard what was supposed to have happened...however, many pieces slipped by.  Many times store in the US received unmarked items and would stamp them once they received them in the US.  Was it legal? No  Was it done?  Yes
