I did look around a bit for a hallmark that may fit the description to no avail.  Is it possible to get a pic of the hallmark on the item, this may help in finding the maker.  Also you said it is made in Germany, Is it marked made in germany?

The more I look at your item, the more it appears to be a cookie jar rather then a stein.  does the lid hinge? or does it just come off?  The numbers would me manufacture pattern numbers and possible craftsman.  Also can you give the size of the item, looks to be very large in size. Would have to see a pic of the hallmark to ID the maker.  However without that if it is a stein this would be a very unusual stein to say the least and would easy fetch around $50.00 if not more.  If it is a Cookie jar then maybe a bit less because their are many unusual cookie jars, even though Cookie jars seems to be a bit more collectible.

Hi!  It is some type of stein.  Never seen a cookie jar with the thumb opening like a stein! - but then....I haven't seen everything!
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Here is one very similar to yours, but with a definite maker's mark.
