Now here's one you don't see every day...
« on: January 15, 2010, 01:29:07 am »
I saw this ad on Craigslist. The owner claims this jewelry box is haunted and wants it out of her house.

I've come across a few items advertised as 'haunted' on ebay and always like to hear the story that often goes with it.

One was offering a  creepy 'haunted' painting and stated he found it clearing out an estate of a deceased relative. He would hear a bark of a close by dog constantly even though the nearest neighbor was far away and when they would look to see where this dog was found nothing.

Said the house made unexplainable noises, was always very cold even though it was mid summer, and had an erie sense that someone was there.

Supposedly he never believed in ghost but said all this changed his mind.Sounded like he was convinced and being truthful but who knows.

None of his other listings that I could trace back 3 months prior had any real stories that went with them.

I might pay $200 to get rid of a ghost but don't think I'd pay that much to get one.

Here's one more in the creepy craigslist department .... two days ago , while checking the 'all for sale/wanted' section of the local craigslist , I came across an ad titled "white baby for sale' .

I flagged the ad , printed it out & called the cops .

In the ad , a man said he didn't have it together enough to take care of himself , & didn't know how to take care of a baby .
He was attempting to sell the child for $500.00 .
He needed 'beer money' .

Others called police , but no one else had a print-out of the ad (it got flagged enough , right away , so the ad could not be accessed) .

Cops came & got the print-out .

I was not a hoax .

Good Lord !

Reminds me of that FedEx (or some postal service/courier company) commercial for flat-rate shipping boxes.  The whole family is out on the lawn staring through the front door at the evil haunted clown that they bought off eBay and need to ship back to the seller.  Cute.

Girl friend owned a Haunted Doll once. Hatefull little Witch. Her antic's made a local tv show. and a story. even made the front cover of the book. Possessed Possessions by Ed Okonowicz
Honestly it never bothered me. it just threw things at the girl friend.

Great work Regularjoe2.Way to go.

Hope they put this P.O.S. in jail where he belongs.

I can maybe see his point about not having it together, but to put your kid up for sale then saying you need beer money makes me sick.

YIKES RegularJoe2!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o I'm floored! that is amazing. Good for you for taking action. I would have written it off as a hoax and never have given it a second thought. I'm so glad you did, that poor baby. Thank God he or she is in good hands now thanks to you. If that doesn't get you a free pass to Heaven I don't know what does! WELL, WELL DONE!!!

I wasn't going to admit to this one, but since you guys have personal experience with haunted objects I'll chime in too. Out of all my much loved antique stuff, I have only run across this kind of thing once. I have an ancient Egyptian oil lamp with a large hole in the side of it where it was dropped during a tomb robbery. It was excavated  back when it was still legal to export antiquities out of the country and it still has the archaeological excavation cataloging number painted on the side of it. When we got this lamp, my hubby was handling it, turning it over and looking at it when he said it had burned his hand. There was no mark, and I kind of chuckled and didn't really believe him.

Then when I was building the lucite stand for it, I had it on a towel and had been turning and flipping it around, picking it up and down for about 20 minutes, when I felt exactly what it feels like when you run your finger through a candle flame. Rather interesting that I felt it out of the back of the lamp and not at the wick hole! It was very quick and only lasted a couple of seconds. That was it.

The rest of the time, it is very quiet and well behaved. It causes no trouble and seems to just want to be left to sleep quietly. I just dust it now and then and as silly as it sounds, I tell it what I'm doing when I dust it off! I really don't know what it is, but I don't mind giving him a quiet place to sleep. I've even given a lot of thought to who should be entrusted with it when I pass away.

So there ya go, that's my story. I'll post a pic if you guys would like to see a photo.

Crazy how both of you had the same type of thing happen, but if there's anything that would be likely to be haunted, it's understandable that it would be from a disturbed tomb.

I wonder about the history some of these antiques have seen. Can't help not wondering on this one.
Maybe that's part of the appeal.

It would be intresting to see a photo when you have time and if you think it would do no harm.

Any idea's on the items age or do you know anything else about it?

I'm afraid that is all I know. This was an Ebay item and the seller only knew that it had come from a looted tomb. I'm just going on what the seller told me, I have no way to verify it. They didn't know anything further and I did ask for any details. (I always do ask for any known history. Most often people are just reselling) There must be a way to look up the old catalog number, I should really stop by the Egyptian Museum in San Jose and ask about how that might be done. Tomb robbing was very, very common in ancient Egypt though, I don't know how the cataloging numbers were done back in those days. I don't know if there was a standardized system to where we could find out where it came from, or if the archaeologist in charge of a dig just numbered as they saw fit.

It has a gaping hole in the side of it where it was dropped. I've always imagined that probably happened when the priests who guarded the tomb showed up! I'll get a photo this afternoon. My ancient friend doesn't seem to mind, LOL.

I see that the haunted jewelry box comes from someone who is an Avon rep. I'd be willing to bet she has haunted Avon bottles too................ at $200 each.
