Need Help ID-ing Claw Foot Tub
« on: January 31, 2010, 08:19:18 am »
We found an old Claw foot tub buried during a remodel.  The house is about 105+ years old.  On the bottom of the tub is "I.C.S. M'F'G CO".  I wasn't able to find an I.C.S. manufactoring co. through google or anything else I tried.  Any ideas?  We are just curious and we are also going to sell it, or donate it, as we have no place for it.  So, I am looking for some info and an idea of what it is worth. Thanks in advance.

The condition of the tub. is more important, then who manufactored. average values are $50.00 to $ 300.00 Dollars. The biggest problem being what they weigh.

How cool that you unearthed a tub!! I'm guessing it was dropped down below floor level? Interesting! It was probably easier to do that than to get it out of the house!

We did a full tear-out/remodel of our bathroom and I went with an iron clawfoot tub and gooseneck shower enclosure. I absolutely love it! Best soaking tubs ever made IMHO!  It was really interesting to see three layers of old bathroom walls one over the other that were hidden in the walls of our 1935 house. Especially the hideous Peptobismol pink layer!

If the condition of the tub isn't good, these tubs can be professionally reglazed also but there should be a local architectural salvage company that would buy it from you in whatever its present condition. Craigslist is another option but you might want a pro to get it out of wherever it is.
