No Returns Accepted

This puzzles me.  On some listings on Ebay the seller includes a caveat "no returns accepted."  Then at the bottom of the listing it states (by Ebay)  "you are fully protected to the full amount when you pay by PayPal."  And in some of these listings it is "PayPal only accepted."  Has anyone an explanation for this?  thanks.

I'm thinking this Paypal/eBay guarantee is that the delivery will make it to you and it's not at all about your being happy with a purchase when your buying from a seller who offers a no refund policy.

IMO it pays to look at a sellers feedback rating (as a seller) and it's kind of a red flag to me when I see a no refund policy.

I've never had a bad experience dealing with a 99 or 100% feedback seller who offers a refund/inspection period.
If negative feedback is found, read it to see what the issue was regarding and keep it in mind.

I think eBay should make it easier to find all a sellers negative feedback rather than scrolling through page after page trying to track it down. But then again they want you to buy so paypal can get their cut.

Paypal states -

 "Protection doesn't cover fraudulent charges or buyer remorse. Also, items must be purchased on the U.S. eBay.com website to qualify for eBay Buyer Protection coverage, and are covered for 45 days from the date of payment. Purchases made on Half.com and classified listings on eBay.com are not covered."

Lets face it Paypal is a giant money making machine more than anything else, but it will help you get your money back if your following all their rules and at their discretion.JMO

I have read this explanation somewhere recently and I think it was in the Auctionbytes site.  I think "No returns accepted" and then being covered by eBays protection covers you when the item received is not as described or a totally different item was sent to you.  I just got back from Winnipeg and when I get caught up with everything, I will try and find the eBay and PayPal explanations.

We're hearing from some sellers that eBay's protection plan does not necessarily honor seller's stated return policy; eBay may refund a buyer for a claim even if the seller says no returns, or returns within a certain time period, or store-credit only, etc. And if eBay reimburses a buyer counter to a seller's policy, what recourse does the seller have?

Lynda Talgo: eBay's buyer protection program does honor a seller's stated return policy when the item arrives within the expected delivery estimate and is described accurately in the listing. In addition, eBay encourages buyers and sellers to work together to resolve disputes.

If the buyer and seller are not able to resolve the issue, and we find that the item is not accurately described, eBay will cover the buyer through eBay Buyer Protection and seek reimbursement from the seller.

It's important to note that eBay Buyer Protection's claims decisions take into account all communications between sellers and buyers, including listing descriptions and other information that help determine the appropriate resolution. If a seller feels the wrong decision has been made, we want the seller to contact eBay Customer Support to file an appeal.

Thanks for the replies.  Seems like it is covered in the quote from Lynda Talgo that the seller's policy is honored as long as item is received on time and described accurately.

Of course we know that all of us (well ........99.99% of us) care about receiving negative feedback, especially if we have high 90's or 100% positive.  As both a buyer and seller on Ebay I heartily concur with Ebay's policy of not allowing retaliatory negative feedback by the seller after receiving negative feedback from the buyer.  But's that's just my 1/50th of a dollar.
