antique? asian lamp
« on: February 12, 2010, 10:38:12 pm »
Hi, does anyone know how old this lamp would be?  Is there a term for the enamel work?  Cloisonne?  Thanks, Tara

Can you please post a few more pics....further away and on the bottom or any marks.  Closely inspect the design to see if there are any irregularities (possible signature).  Thanks!

Hopefully these are better photos.  I haven't been able to find a irregularity/ signature area.

I would suggest, it's Cloisonne.

I'm with D&b on the cloisonne opinion .

Perhaps your item was one that was 'remanufactured' into a lamp .

I've seen many nice asian champleve & cloisonne vases/urns/ginger-jars 're-purposed' into lamp items , which generally reduces their value .

A likely spot to look for artist sigs & etc. is the bottom of the base of the jar (requires disassembly of your lamp) .

Nice motif & item , tara1245 .

Completely in accordance with the others. And unfortunately Fancypants is right, you must dissemble your piece to really find out more about it. Without seeing the bottom, I would say the lamp is no older than the early 20th century (based on the condition and design).
