Kroehler rocking chair

Hi all
Already did a search on this site and the web with 0 results. I wish to sell this rocker, but have virtually no information about it. Has been in the family for several generations. That's all I got.
Value, information, where to sell? Any help would be appreciated.

Kroehler started in 1902.  closed in 1978. the chair design is that of the late 30's or 1940's. on a good day, maybe $ 125.00 Dollars. more likely to sell at $ 75.00 Dollars or less.

Agree with D&b - in my area would sell more likely for $50.

Man, I thought it would start at $125 and go up from there. So what is the hold back. Condition? Style? Manufacture? I've seen much plainer rockers go for much more.

most likely condition.

would not be susprised if it was varnished at one point either.

Sounds like your thinking it may have been refinished at one time. I have owned it myself for the last 40 years. As far as I can tell it has never been refinished. Just a little furniture polish. Otherwise it is the original finish.

Actually I think it is rocking chairs in general. They seem to be kind of a hard sell these days. Just not that many people are into them and it is hard to get them to fit in with an existing decor. Women with babies on the way tend to buy new ones, and they just don't have the kind of popularity they once did. If you run a search on Craigslist for rockers in the antiques sections there are tons of beautiful, unique rockers that keep getting re-listed. Personally I love them. But I'm an antique geek, LOL.

Well I sure appreciate everybody's input. Looks like I will have to start with  a lower price than I was thinking. Was going to start over $100.
Looks like I will be starting out around $75 and be will to negotiate, a lot.

You can always try and hold on to it for longer....the resale market is pretty low out there now.

I agree with the fact that rockers aren't nearly as important now as they were in the past. In the past, people actually sat out on their porches. Knitted in their favorite rocking chair, rocked in front of a fire, read stories with their kids on their lap or simply watched the clouds roll by. Rockers were actually used, appreciated and important to a family. These days, with busy lives, lazy people and more towns turning into big cities, people just don't use rockers. Maybe a mom rocking the baby to sleep for a few minutes. Otherwise, people just don't appreciate them. Go to a small rural town and you'll still see rockers on front porches. But how often do you see any in the city? Ah, the way things used to be, eh? If you were close to me, I'd buy it. Just for it to look cool in the antique room.

Quite a few states away, unfortunately. In Washington. I think it'd be cool sittin' next to the phonograph. On the opposite side of course. Don't want to blow my ears out.

Agreed, they would look great!!

Wanted to add that rockers were carried over in covered wagons by the pioneers too. They were much appreciated at the end of a long hard day of travel so I hear! I have been enjoying mine during my recovery/chemo. Few places are more nice and comforting than a good ol' rocker!
