Okay, I have been pondering this...seems we aren't getting any replys back from original poster...but a new line of thinking is that this is a overmantle mirror - they had small shelves and looked alot like this as well!  Would also account for the resting nobs!
  1880's  $899 value for this one!  Victorian walnut!
