What is this cat?

It measures 5 ¼” by 3 ¼”. It looks to have little white stones for eyes with a splosh of black on them but don’t know if the “black” is natural or painted on them.

I believe this is a very ancient feline that once stared into the eyes of Medusa and was immediately turned to stone.  That explains the snarling gaping mouth and mad eyes.

And then Medusa used it for a doorstop.

If in fact it is medusa's doorstop I'm sure it would be stoned  ;).  Sorry had to put a bit of my silly humor in from time to Time  :D

KC, my guess is that it is marble. It is cold to the touch, has a slight ring to it if tapped with something and the wife says it weighs about 2 pounds.

It is polished everywhere except the flat parts of the bottoms of the front paws and hind quarters and on them one can see what appears to me to be saw marks that are at 45 degrees to the longitudal length of the body.

We have had it for several years and we got it in a "box of junk" at an auction.

I guess its origin would have to be traced via the type of stone is is made from.

It resembles items I have seen from S America/Mexico over 25 - 30 years ago.  They did lots of polished marble items for export.

I have what might be a distant cousin to that cat although he doesn't look as angry. Mine is ceramic and comes from Italy. Makes a great doorstop too.
