Antique honoring German mothers during the 3rd Reich.
Thought it was cool for a country to honor the mother.

These were pretty much issued to recognize & encourage 'Aryan' breeding .

If a woman was German & bore 4-5 kids , she'd get a bronze one ; 6-7 kids , a silver ; 8 + kids a gold one .

The first woman to get one of these puppies was Magda Goebbels , the wife of Joseph Goebbels (yeah , the Nazi propoganda guy) ... hers was silver (6 children) .

These medals could be 'taken back' by the Nazi regime if a woman 'misbehaved' with certain behaviors .

Not to be a stick-in-the-mud on Mothers Day ... I'm just sayin' ......

First presented on May 21 , 1939 - last presented in 1944 .

The medal was designed by architect Franz Berberich .

It would also come with a 'certificate' with a facsimilie of A. Hitlers' sig , as in the image below .

Yep more of a decoration for contributing to the "war effort" if you will.  About $150 with case, more with the document.  Very nice!

It is a beautiful object in its own right.

Having lived in fear during those terrible years of WW2, I am too old to feel anything but disgust.

As everyone here would agree, the man (Hitler) and his empire were pure evil personified.

Makes it tough for me to appreciate the historical value and object value of the medal.

It's my fault for not being able to separate the object from its context.

That's me.

America's all about tolerance,right??

I didn't put it out there to offend but rather to show history.
I think it's a double standard how we look at America's history with the slaughter of the American Indian and slavery and think we're the good guys and then look with disgust and outraged at another country's errors and say their horrible.

My apology your offended but why not be offended at our flag too.JMO

Dean fascinating historical piece!!!! I believe ALL history should be preserved & NOT forgotten , it is a fool who ignores the errors of the past as he will be doomed to repeat them!! Many horrific things took place in the history of all countries and to turn a blind eye I feel diminishes the loss of thousands of souls.  Chinese antique furniture I can not imagine what you lived through during that horrific time but by no means should it be forgotten - the innocent souls, the brave men who fought and families who lost them. Pieces of history like this remind us all.

Although it makes me cringe, I feel that historic items of all types need to be preserved as reminders of the past, even when it was one of the darkest points in human history. I feel much the same about slavery-related items, torture devices and some of the black Americana items. I see them in a "lest we forget" frame of mind.

At first I thought that yours might not be authentic, because of the date that Wayward pointed out, but it seems that they are all inscribed like yours:

On the page above the set of three are selling for $195, but I also saw a single one for $550.

The one that started the thread is the most common encountered, the rarer variant having "Das Kind Adelt Die Mutter" with facsimilie Hitler signature below it,,,those bring the premium

It's hard for people to agree on a subject like this. I also feel like history should be preserved, no matter what the item represents.

Good point about our country. All those "cool arrow heads" and antique weapons have a history, too. That arrowhead in your home could have been used to murder a sleeping woman or a terrified child when a neighboring tribe raided the camp. Maybe they were fighting over land and an entire innocent village was wiped out. That arrowhead was instrumental in changing history and could have contributed to the death of a human life.

That beautiful firearm from the 1800's could have killed countless african amercans in hate crimes.  That "antique" also changed history in a way nobody will ever know, because it's not inscribed on the weapon. But I guarantee almost every one of us has a piece of history that killed a person or is otherwise associated with some horrible act on a human being. The only reason people hate Nazi items is because that Swastika is etched into our brain to represent hate.

All pieces of history need to be preserved, no matter what the association. I'm sure plenty of people think that medieval sword or ancient dagger is just amazing. Why not hate those? Those were absolutely used in battles over land and battles of religion. Where thousands, sometimes millions, of people were hated and slaughtered. There's no Swastika on those items so we find them fascinating. I find Hitler disgusting, but these items need to be shown to future generations. So that when they ask the questions...

How big was this?
How did it feel?
What did it look like?
What was it made of?
They won't have to see it on a piece of paper in a history book. They can feel it, they can see it and they can understand history. Maybe if they see these pieces of history, they won't make those mistakes in our future.

Tales, I must be losing it.  I do not even remember posting on this subject.

Swastikas used to be a good luck symbol and used in Native American imagery.  I think they called theirs a rolling log and the arms went the other direction though.  Nobody uses them anymore due to the Nazi connotation.  German weapons from the same period do not seem to be held in disgust.  Maybe it is just seeing that swastika on the red flag and armbands that is burned in everyone's mind as evil?
