Antique Wardrobe/Closet/Armoir, I need to identify...
« on: May 27, 2010, 03:52:01 pm »
Hello,

I'm posting this topic on behalf of Kampo Cultural Center, Inc in New York City. We're moving from NY to Japan and in the midst of cleaning out, we've realized we can't bring this beautiful piece of furniture with us. We're not sure where it came from, and how much it was purchased for since we've been in this building for over 30 years. If anybody out there can identify this piece of furniture (where it's from, how old it might be, how much you think it would be worth) it would be greatly appreciated. There is no signature anywhere on it, not even the bottom. Also, there is a crack on the right front door as you can see in the photos.

Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Jon

Jon, can you post some photos of the design elements of the doors and the interior painting? I'm not an expert, but this looks more Chinese than Japanese to me.

Chinese Antique Furniture, maybe you can chime in on this one?

I agree on all counts.  I picked up the zoom to 400% to try to see the design (if any) on the inside of the doors, but all I can see is blurr.
