Art Deco Armoire Identification
« on: July 01, 2010, 03:57:00 pm »
I have this Art Deco Armoire with a plate inside stating "George Rolph Ltd, House Furnishers, Hemel Hemstead. Founded 1937, Boxmoor 70".  So this means it was purchased at George Rolph's shop in Hemel in the early 1900's, right? But I cannot find any furniture makers marks, except something that looks like graffiti on the back side.  Does anyone know anything about this wardrobe's maker and the value?  Also the door handle is broken.  The inside is all intact and is beautiful(to me, anyway).  Thanks.

I found a bit of information about your Mr. George Rolph ( & his great-nephew Cyril Rolph ) selling furniture and other goods in Hemel : the information can be found @ www.hemeltoday.co.u k & some mention of (possible leads from) the co-op folks in that area

Nice large & eye-catching wardrobe , jeaniep .

Are you in the UK , by the way ?

Looks like you are missing a strip of wood on the left front at top.  This will devalue it some!

I should have taken a better photo!  Those are two of the shelves that I pulled out and set on top when I was trying to find some kind of furniture makers marks.
