Can anyone Identify this?
« on: August 11, 2010, 06:57:47 pm »
We were going through some of my grandparents belongings and I came across this butane lighter.  I don't know what it's for or if it's special or antique.  I tried to perform a websearch to identify it but to no avail.  The lighter does work and is about 18-20" long and is made of brass.

I'd say it is a candle lighter.

Your pics are too small for me to really see your item, but these type of lighters are common in churches & frequently have a 'snuffer' attached , like the 18" one in the image below .

Looks similar to ones we had growing up....used to light built in wall heaters for the house.  They were kerosene and you had to reach pretty far back to light it so you needed the length!

What part of the country are these from?
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Also, are there any numbers, letters, symbols or other markings on it anywhere? They may be tiny if there are any.  ;)
