Silver Plated or Sterling
« on: April 01, 2008, 06:46:50 am »
Hi there

Just wondered if anyone knew where I could find some information about a spoon I have,

I cant get a decent picture, but heres as full as description as I can do...

Spoon is 7 inches long and on the underside it has C&WB along side it theres a like a Prince of Wales feather arrangement, I know its not feathers, but its the besy way I can describe it, further up the handle is MONTANA SILVER C&W.

If anyone can help Id be most grateful, am I holding on to a fortune?? (little joke there)

I have two of these spoons (and a story about one of them)!

Please reply (& to my email address mackiealastair@hotmail.com).

MONTANA SILVER over Collings & Wallis in script     Collings & Wallis - Birmingham 1892  Typically silver plate.

For their silver mark go to the "Special Threads" section on main page of this site...then go to Trademarks on Base Metals thread....open the side on internet and go to page
Page 52 .

They also made nails & weights
"Collings and Wallis
Collings and Wallis, Birmingham
Collings and Wallis
C & W
A firm of merchants and nailmakers, at 223 King Edwards Road, Birmingham [1875 White]. The name appears on weights with a copper plug (pre-1890), having a shaped edge similar to that used by Holcroft."
Some of their holloware pieces demand a high price for it's ornate work.

COLLINGS
COLLINGS & WALLACE
King Edward's Road, Birmingham
(1892)
Spoons and forks of precious metals
Ref. 1892
MONTANA SILVER.
