Pottery... Where is it from???
« on: November 02, 2010, 09:49:27 am »
Hi everyone!  I am new to the forum.  I bought these three pieces at an estate auction about 15 yrs ago.  They were in a lot with some Egyptian Scarabs that had caught my eye.  I really don't know anything about pottery.  I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to research online but just don't know if I'm looking in the right direction.  I think they have some similarities to Middle Kingdom.
I have taken them to two dealer here in Rochester, NY where I was expecting to be told hands down they were replicas but both thought it was quite possible they are authentic but weren't able to tell me where they were from.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!  :)

The vase is 5" h, the pitcher 2 1/2" h and the cup?? 1 5/8" h.

Welcome, jenbr!  I merged the two posts and then removed the one because it looked like a duplicate post to me.  Kept the one with 4 pics.

Unfortunately, I can't lend any more information than what you have already received.  They are very nice pieces...but no tell-tale signs/marks and no proof of provenance.

Maybe someone can help direct you as to where you look next.....

Welcome to the forum ,  jenbr !

I'm very curious to know if all of your items have been 'fired' or not ;
also a bit curious about the 'stain' on the small amphora vase .... do you know how it got there (?) ... if it is some original mat'l residue (natron/potash/wax) from the era it was used , it would be possible to have it analyzed with spectroscopy to estimate its' age .
