Very impressive sleuthing!  I also believe it is a commemorative pin....

What is the composition of the pin?  Length/dimensions?  Does it appear to have had a end cap on it? (Wear would be on the pointed end.)

Was it in box? container? Wrapped in an item?

KC, I do have this pin in my possession now. The oval head is 3/4" by 1/2". Slightly convex oval head is a dull gold tone with engraved letters/numbers. Maker's mark on back is M.R in a laying down diamond. I haven't tried finding the maker yet. This is a stickpin with a 2 1/2" 'stick' pointed on the end. Total length from top of oval to the point is 2 5/8". Pin is all non-magnetic metal with a dull or matte brass/gold finish. No clutch wear apparent to pointed end. I bought this from an etsy dealer from Wisconsin. No box/container or other info available. The dealer thought the letters and dates were initials and years of a marriage or anniversary. They did not take the time to do any research, much to my delight.  :)
