Vase
« on: April 16, 2011, 05:18:11 pm »
I bought this vase today because I thought it looked old. But now that I look at it, it looks like it could be from the 80's or something. I can't make out the signature and thought I would ask if you all can make it out. It is not normal clay, it is some kind of sandy brown texture. Thanks for any advice!

Hosman it looks like Bruning to me   there is a Bruning Pottery in Snohomish,  Washington  wondering if this is maybe an early makers mark as they now use a stamp type mark. They say they have created all their own glazes & finishes. I would contact them and see if it is from them.  Here is the site http://bruningpottery.com/index.html good luck & let us know ;) really nice vase

I think Wendy has it there. Despite not being 'old' I really like it, and I love the colour!
A quick look around and it seems that asking price for something like this is c $60 +, but if this is an earlier piece then it could be worth a little more.
As Wendy says .. drop them an e-mail. They seem to be a smallish studio so probably will easily identify the pattern .. 'Barley Head'?

I like the looks of this as well.  Betting value of $60 - $85!  I would contact them as well.

The colors/style are ones that would be sought after by interior design gurus!

Thank you so much for finding that site! I emailed them, waiting for a reply. I'll let ya know what they say. I never would have thought Bruning. I was thinking it was a "Y" at the end. :P

Jessica,
Yes I made it... probably in mid 80s. That is my signature.  I am now dating all pots I personally make, but I didn't in those days.
It was made while we were renting space from Seattle Pottery Supply on Horton street in SODO area of Seattle.
The glaze name is Lilac... fired to cone 10, in reduction, with Iron oxide brushwork, on Bruning Stoneware clay.
Replace the cork dots to make the bottom look better.
Thanks for your interest.
Larry Bruning

I'll definitely put a copy of it inside, it may not be very old but it still could be older than me. :P
In the future, if the paper actually stays in the vase, someone will be glad that the research was already done and they know exactly where it came from, when it was made, how it was made and who made it. Wish all the antiques out there had their history attached...

Actually I would just roll it up and put it into a cool looking tube.  I think a Laminated print would just get stuck.  Also if you want a Laminated print of it, Email it to me and I'll do it free, That's what I do for a living, beside trying to be a want to be dealer at night.  ;)
