Mystery Chairs
« on: May 07, 2011, 01:41:15 pm »
Hi everyone, I was at the swap meet this morning and picked up these chairs. Anyone have any idea of the vintage/style? :)

Could you please post a few more pics?  Side views/back and underside.

Looks like it has been reupholstered.

I would say it has definitely been reupholstered. I tried to get a few more pictures but I have a very stubborn kitty. Thanks in advance!

I'm just going to throw this out there as I don't have time to research right now but....  This chair has been reminding me of gout stools (remember the one Tales bought to go with Eastlake rocker?).  I googled Gout Chair to see if there was such a thing and I saw a few that resembled this chair (in Google Images)...

Might be worth a look..

Oceans64....GREAT JOB!!!!  These are much more common in the UK.  Usually seen as stools.

ilovedogs....I would take it it to a professional or send pics to one of the larger auction houses to verify whether this is a true older Gout Chair/stool or is a beautiful newer Empire style chair.  Christies' Auction house has sold some of these babies....  Needs a hands on verification in my opinion.

Thanks for shedding a little light on this situation, everyone! After some further research it definitely seems like you guys are on the right track and I really appreciate the help. And mariok, thank you -- as if his ego needs more inflating ;)

Hahaha, touche, Oceans... but, in my defense, he's definitely more like a dog than a cat -- comes when he's called and everything :)
