How long do you wait?
« on: July 28, 2011, 04:44:54 pm »
I have a possible non-payment situation on eBay. It's been 3 days - no contact, no payment.  I've sent 2 invoices. The first immediately, The second was this AM...I asked for contact (at least) if there will be a delay in payment but so far nothing.

When do you start to worry? How long until you cancel and re-list?

ETA: he has 19 FB.  Very few mention fast payment... Of course all are positive - That's eBay

I had a similar situation quite awhile ago. Did what you did and still no contact. I think I gave the bidder 7 days but not sure. Followed eBay rules and opened up a non-paying bidder case to protect myself. Bidder never paid. Bidder received 1 strike for my complaint and I think he already had 1 strike for non-payment. Non-payment does not affect feedback...go figure. I think 3 non-payment strikes and eBay suspends them but in the meanwhile their feedback stays 100% and they keep on bidding until they get suspended.

I usually wait 3 business days before I even send a note to the bidder. I use eBay automatic invoice. Some bidders wait until the last minute to pay.

Good luck, Oceans.  :-\

Tomorrow is payday so hopefully I'll hear something then. Just wondering what others patience level is....

Honestly, no reason to not pay immediately....

Unless there was blood involved...  maybe you get a pass then....

I get this quite often, I have one that has been waiting for 8 days now.  I personnally will wait 30 days, never had to wait that long, but I am generous I guess, and really not in much hurry, I may have to wait a little over a month to relist the item, if it came to that.  Some people are just slow, but even more of the case, is the people who don't really get on the computer that often.  I have a friend that won a ebay item, and forgot to check for several days, he may check his email every couple of weeks.  I think personnally one should wait at least 7 days, then it is up to you how long to wait.

Thank IL...  I was thinking 7 days was long enough.  I hate it hanging over my head since I'm not great about checking my email either and this forces me to do it.

Just checked the actual rules. Always a good place to start  ;D

"If you don't receive payment, you can open an unpaid item case in the Resolution Center as early as 4 days or up until 32 days after the listing ended (or immediately if the buyer is no longer registered on eBay)."

4 days seems a little quick...  It's really not the waiting for payment, it's the fact they wont respond but as IL said, maybe they forgot...

I always send a note as soon as the bidding ends to tell the buyer that if the [payment arrives in time then the item will be in the post by ... This generally encourages prompt payment. This week I had a chap take 4 days before paying me, then when the payment came through there was a note simply saying 'Please dispatch ASAP'  Aren't people wonderful!
Hope your payment came through OK ... but it's better to be waiting for the payment and still holding the goods, than having paid and waiting for the goods!  ;D

I've been selling items on ebay for a couple years now. It's always been hit and miss. I always say in my ads that I need some sort of deposit within 24 hrs of auction end. For some reason I have a nose for those that have no intention of paying. You could always try doing a "buy it now", and require immediate payment along with it. I know you definatley want to be carefull with dealing with certain ebay people. I once had a guy buy one of my classic cars for $8500 and never heard from them. Ya it happens!!!! The sad thing is there's nothing you can do about it. Anyway sorry to hear another one of these stories and good luck.
