« on: June 27, 2011, 08:19:00 am »
;D Good Morning ALL......... I have this "fishing basket" , it comes from an estate I am helping to liquidate......I have searched and searched to no avail. I have found some similar, but none like this..... the owner says it is old,aka vintage,as it has been in his family for over 30 yrs. any information would be appreciated....

A pretty piece, but it doesn't appear to have been used at all.  My husband and I used modern baskets (plastic "chicken wire" and metal hoops to hold the form) to fish for catfish for three seasons -- all the metal pieces had to be replaced at the end of each season, and four times the buoy broke free and we had to dredge the location (as per GPS) with a gaffe to hook the basket.    But then, I have a prejudice for liking useful items, items that have been used.  I like the history of utility of everyday items.

Sorry, that's all I have.

Most of the ones I have seen have been fish traps with a conical end to lead the fish into the basket and be trapped. Yours does not appear to be a trap but just a holding device to keep fish alive? A fish trap that is similar is available on this site for $130.  Don't know if that helps you out or not.

All of the reed/bamboo traps I have seen have been of foreign use and manufacture.
