Can anyone tell me what this is?

It's very well made made out of solid mahogany (I think). It's 29in high including legs, 27in wide, 14in deep.

The top drawer has a small compartmentalised sliding insert. The second down has slots for 3 missing dividers.

The semicircular compartments either side are the mystery! They run the whole height of the drawers. The hinges on the flaps over these have been replaced (rather clumsily) otherwise everything seems original apart maybe the drawer knobs, the material of which I can't identify.

An idea of age and value would be nice, but it's what it was made for that's really bugging me!

Just a guess but it looks like a knitting storage table to me. long knitting needles & yarn go in the side compartments with patterns , needle , thread , scissors and so on  go in the drawers.

Agree as well....  Have also seen them ID'd as sewing tables but I think Knitting Table is correct....

Thanks to everyone for taking the trouble to reply. I bought this in Wales, UK for about $60 from a dealer who had no idea what it was, except he thought it was American. Now we can stop scratching our heads!
