Japanese Silk Painting Artist and Age?
« on: July 23, 2011, 08:16:12 am »
I purchased this Japanese Silk Painting from a local thrift store yesterday for $3.00 (I always feel better when I spend less). The painting is about 12 inches wide and 9 1/2 inches high and the frame is about 17 1/2 inches wide and 15 inches high. The matting seems to be of some floral pattern material and the frame has a bamboo accent to it but I think it's wood. The back of the frame is sealed with no writing.

It's my best guess the painting is from the 50's and probably valued at between $25 and $50 but I really don't know for sure and I like the painting just the same. Anyways, my question is if anyone knows Japanese and can decipher (translate) the writing on the painting and the signature seal of the artist and perhaps have an approximate date for this painting?

The first image is a bit blurred on the bottom of the picture from the camera flash.

Thanks,
Kevin

I have had many pieces of similar style and I think you are about right on the date or at least that it is newer !! The letters are probably the name of the painting and the red symbol  (chop mark) at the bottom is the signature !! You might look up the mark as each is unique to the artist or person !!  I don`t think they are used much anymore !!  I had six hand painted tiles in frames that I tried to find once with no luck as so many pieces are done as tourist items and most have the same or similar theme !!
