Can anyone tell me ANYTHING about this bed?
« on: August 22, 2011, 06:54:54 pm »
This bed was given to my family by a really close friend who passed away a couple weeks ago. All we really know about it is that it was her's as a little girl growing up in Connecticut (1940s - 1950s) and that it was most likely passed down to her by her grandmother or maybe even great-grandmother.
The only markings on the whole bed are just a few black marker or chalk marks on the back of one of the side boards, but I don't understand them.

If anyone can tell me anything about it so I can further my search, it would be greatly appreciated! (:

Below are some pictures of the headboard, a close up on the painting on the headboard, side boards/foot board/planks for under the bed, and the black markings on the back of the side board.

Beautiful! It's just my style. :) I would say your bed dates to the 1920s, that's when this style of bed became really popular again. It is a reproduction of beds made in the 1700s. Is it hand painted or is the design an applied decal? Is it a twin size? Depending on the size, a bed like this would sell for about $300 if twin size. About $350 if full size in my area (Seattle). At least that's what I would pay for it. ;) By the way, I believe this particular style is Loius XV or Louis XVI, if that helps in your searches.

I, for one, would kill for this one! Just my luck, it's in the UK.

You can also search for "1920s Louis bed" to see similar beds and prices. The prices are a bit higher online than I think they are actually worth.

What a lovely bed! So special and unique. Don't try to restore it, leave it just as it is.

Thank you all for posting! (:
And it's all hand painted and it fits a full size bed.
Does anyone know anyway I could find where it was made or where it came from?

The best way to do that is to post some good clear images of its construction. Hardware, how pieces are joined etc can all help to date it
